Badass animal of the week: Mariana Snailfish - This little guy lives in the bottom of the Mariana trench, off the coast of Japan, the deepest (discovered) point in the ocean. At that point, the water pressure is 11,789 pounds per square inch, which is about 368 times the air pressure in a car tire! Regardless, this fish (not a snail) braves the pressure and lives its life in complete darkness (but that's ok because it doesn't even use its eyes).
Badass animal of the week: Peacock Mantis Shrimp - You guys have likely already heard of this animal before but it deserves to be said cause it’s just so badass. This big guy is a breed of shrimp that instead of being pink is colored totally rainbow, and scientists speculate it can see 13 more basic colors than humans can! Not only that but it has a “sonic punch” that travels at 50 mph it can use to stun prey with its claws, which accelerates so fast it boils the water around it for a split second, and can break glass. I saw one of these at the local aquarium once and they had to use 2 separate panes of special glass for its container just in case it did do a punch for some reason.
I love this game so much <3
Badass animal of the week: Common Bottlenose Dolphin - The dolphin is likely the smartest animal to ever grace the seas. This is due to their high encephalization quotient, the measure of brain size, theirs is the second highest in the animal kingdom. One technique dolphins in Florida use to catch fish is to kick up dirt in a ring shape in shallow waters around schools of fish, making a border so the fish think they can't swim away. Since their intelligence is pretty high, they can learn tricks and even remember people they've met.
